On November 3, 1911, Louis Chevrolet and Billy Durant incorporated the Chevrolet Motor Car Company in Detroit. The original factory at 2934 Grand River Avenue (now demolished) is where the Classic Six was first assembled. While the building is gone, the address is a pilgrimage point for any Chevy fan. Visit the nearby Detroit Historical Museum for early automotive history and the Spirit of Detroit monument.

Flint is where Billy Durant founded General Motors in 1908 and where the first Corvette rolled off the line in 1953. Visit the Sloan Museum of Discovery for an outstanding automotive history collection including original Chevrolet prototypes. The Durant-Dort Carriage Company Office (a National Historic Landmark) is where Durant's automotive empire began. The GM Heritage Center is relocating to nearby Grand Blanc Township in a massive 300,000 sq ft facility.

Yes, it's Ford's museum — but the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation houses one of the world's finest automobile collections, including significant Chevrolets from every era. The "Driving America" exhibit traces the car's role in American culture. Greenfield Village offers a living history experience. While you're here, cruise Woodward Avenue — home of the annual Woodward Dream Cruise, the world's largest one-day car event (every third Saturday of August).

This National Historic Landmark museum in the beautiful 1930 Auburn Automobile Company headquarters showcases over 120 cars from the brass era through modern times. Their collection includes significant Chevrolets and the museum hosts one of the Midwest's best annual car auctions. A must-stop detour on the way south.

Louis Chevrolet competed in the very first Indy 500 in 1911, finishing 7th. Reopened in 2025 after a $61 million renovation, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum houses over 30 Indy 500-winning cars, Chevy-powered champions, and Corvette pace cars. Don't miss the Louis Chevrolet Memorial at the entrance — a bronze bust with four relief panels depicting his greatest accomplishments. Take a lap around the famous 2.5-mile oval on the bus tour.

The crown jewel of the Chevy Dream Tour. The National Corvette Museum houses over 80 Corvettes in 115,000 sq ft — from a 1953 original to the latest C8. See mint classics, one-of-a-kind prototypes, rare collectibles, and the famous Corvette Cave-In exhibit documenting the 2014 sinkhole that swallowed eight Corvettes. Right next door, the GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant is where every Corvette in the world is built — factory tours available.

Housing the largest European car collection in the US with over 500 vehicles, the Lane Motor Museum is a hidden gem. While it focuses on European rarities, their American section includes significant Chevrolets and the museum offers a fascinating contrast to see what Chevy was competing against globally. The collection includes micro-cars, amphibious vehicles, and prototypes you won't see anywhere else.

"See the USA in Your Chevrolet" — and there's no better way than on Route 66. The Mother Road and Chevy are inseparable. Stop at the Route 66 Car Museum in Springfield, MO for a stunning collection of classic American cars. In Tulsa, visit the Tulsa Auto Show & Route 66 Historical Village. Drive the original alignment through small-town America, past neon signs, vintage gas stations, and roadside diners.

Ten Cadillacs buried nose-first in a Texas field — Cadillac Ranch is GM's most photographed art installation and a Route 66 icon. While they're Cadillacs (not Chevys), they're part of the GM family and an unmissable stop. Bring spray paint — visitors are encouraged to leave their mark. Drive your Chevy right up to it across the open field.

George Lucas filmed American Graffiti (1973) primarily in Petaluma, CA — the movie that made the '55 Chevy and cruising culture iconic on the big screen. Visit the original filming locations on Petaluma Boulevard. Then head to Modesto, Lucas's hometown, for the annual American Graffiti Festival & Car Show (held each June) and the George Lucas mural downtown.

The Petersen Automotive Museum on Wilshire Boulevard's Museum Row is one of the world's premier car museums. Their collection includes iconic Chevrolets from lowrider Impalas to race-winning Corvettes. The Vault (basement level, guided tour required) houses over 250 additional vehicles. Don't miss the lowrider exhibit — a celebration of the Impala-driven culture born right here in East LA.

Founded by casino magnate Bill Harrah, the National Automobile Museum in Reno houses over 200 vehicles across four galleries set as period street scenes. Their Chevrolet collection includes rare classics, customs, and significant production models. The immersive "street" displays transport you through decades of automotive history. A perfect final stop before heading home — or looping back east.
